The 4th Annual Fall Festival

A huge Mustang THANK YOU to all our students and families for making this year’s Fall Fundraiser such a success! Your efforts--whether sharing links, collecting orders, or spreading the word helped raise funds that go directly back to supporting our students here at South Middle. We couldn’t have done it without your teamwork and generosity. Together, we’re building a stronger, more caring, capable, and connected Mustang community!

A Note from Dr. Hottelman

SMS Families,

As we wrap up the first quarter, I want to take a moment to thank all of our South Middle families for your incredible support!

Our Fall Festival was another huge hit, and we want to thank everyone who attended, donated items, or volunteered your time to help make it such a success. Our students had an absolute blast! Events like this truly capture what middle school is all about.

I also want to thank those who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your partnership means so much and plays a vital role in helping our students grow and succeed. On behalf of our staff, a heartfelt thank-you to those who contributed food and desserts for our teachers during conferences. Your generosity and thoughtfulness were deeply appreciated by everyone!

Thank you again for helping make the first quarter such a positive and successful start to the school year. We are so grateful for your continued support and partnership, and together, we make South Middle a great place to learn and grow!

Thank you for your support,

Jackie Hottelman

✨SMS Staff Learning✨November 4 PD Day

Professional Development Day – November 4

Our teachers spent Tuesday engaged in a productive and energizing Professional Development Day focused on learning, collaboration, and fun! The day included sessions on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), tiered supports for students, technology integration, and engagement strategies to enhance classroom instruction. Staff had meaningful discussions about how to best respond to students’ learning needs and strengthen our collective support systems.

To support staff wellness, teachers also had the opportunity to choose from breakout sessions that included Yoga, Cooking with Colleagues, and a friendly Matball game in the gym. These sessions offered a fun way to recharge and connect while reinforcing the importance of balance and self-care.

We are so proud of our staff’s commitment to continuous growth and their dedication to making South Middle a caring, capable, and connected community of leaders.

Habit of the Month

habit 5, seek first to understand, south middle is a caring capable connected community of leaders

Habit of the Month: Synergize

This month at South Middle, our students are focusing on Habit 6: Synergize – “Together is Better.” Synergizing means valuing differences, working well with others, and combining strengths to achieve more as a team. Whether it’s through group projects, athletics, or daily interactions, we’re helping students see that great things happen when we listen, learn from others, and collaborate toward a common goal.

You can reinforce this habit at home by encouraging your child to listen to different viewpoints, appreciate what makes others unique, and find ways to work together on family tasks or decisions. When we synergize, everyone wins!

Book Club Goes to PSE

Our SMS Book Club had an exciting after-school field trip to PSE, where our students had the chance to read aloud and share stories with elementary readers! This special visit was a treat for the younger students—and a wonderful leadership moment for our Mustangs. We loved seeing our middle schoolers spread joy, enthusiasm, and a love of reading across campuses. We are a caring, capable, connected community of leaders, and Book Club proved it once again! 📚❤️🐴
