Celebrations

What a week at Rock Creek! Classrooms were buzzing with curious questions, lightbulb moments, and plenty of laughter. From diving deep into reading adventures, to teaming up in math and science, our students showed that learning is even stronger when we work together. Collaboration was everywhere... whether in partner work, group projects, or just cheering each other on.

We’re proud of the hard work, the big thinking, and yes… the FUN that filled our halls this week. Rock Creek is proving once again that when we mix in strong learning, teamwork, and a love of reading, amazing things happen!

Here’s a peek at just a few of the highlights…

Leader in Me Corner:

Why Rock Creek Elementary Became a Leader in Me School:

At Rock Creek Elementary, we believe every student has the potential to lead... whether it’s leading themselves, leading their classmates, or leading change. That’s why, over the last few years, we embraced Leader in Me, a whole-school approach based on timeless leadership principles, to help build not just strong learners, but strong people.

What is Leader in Me?

  • It’s not just “another program.” Leader in Me helps us teach students habits and life skills—things like responsibility, teamwork, initiative, and empathy—that will benefit them far beyond just what’s in a textbook.

  • We’ve been training educators, teaching students, setting up leadership roles in classrooms, and embedding these principles into our daily routines.

The A.B. Combs Story:

To see where these ideas come from, check out The A.B. Combs Story. Combs Elementary was one of the first schools to fully embrace these leadership principles—with amazing results. Students there didn’t just learn—they became active, confident leaders in their school community. The video shows how Combs transformed, step by step, cultivating collaboration, student voice, and a culture where everyone takes ownership.

When you get a moment, I’d love for you to watch this video and imagine what these possibilities could look like here at Rock Creek as we continue this JOURNEY with our outstanding student leaders...

Panorama Perception Survey's Start This Week

Dear Fort Zumwalt Families,

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you might be aware, building leadership skills is important for our students. Over the next two weeks, students grades 3 - 12 and all K - 12 teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.

If you have a student(s) grades 3 - 12, we will be asking them to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing while at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.

The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on how they feel about their learning behaviors and their school community. Specific topics will include: Growth Mindset, Self Management, Social Awareness, Self Efficacy, School Climate, Teacher-Student Relationships, Sense of Belonging, and School Safety.

We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide valuable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. A copy of the questions is attached. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential.

If you have any questions about the surveys, or would like your student(s) to opt out, please feel free to contact me Wayne Dierker (principal) at wdierker@fz.k12.mo.us. Specifically at Rock Creek, we will administer these in technology class.

Here is the 3-5 Survey Questions LINKED for Review

Sincerely,

Dr. Wayne Dierker, Principal
