Rock Creek Update 9.1.25

WE BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIEVE. ROCK CREEK STUDENTS WILL SUCCEED.

Celebrations!

This week, Ms. Fitton’s 4th grade class had a blast in music with Mrs. Soller! The room was full of rhythm, teamwork, and a whole lot of smiles as students jumped into a hands-on activity that got everyone moving and making music together.

We love seeing our students light up as they discover new ways to express themselves through the arts. Thank you, Mrs. Soller, for making music class such a joyful space, and kudos to our 4th graders for bringing the energy and enthusiasm!

Rock Creek really does know how to hit all the right notes. 🎵✨

Leader in Me Corner:

🌟 Growing Leaders at Rock Creek—At School and At Home 🌟

Each new school year brings opportunities for growth—not just in academics, but in all areas of development. At Rock Creek, we believe it’s important that students don’t just graduate knowledgeable—we want them to grow into healthy, engaged, responsible, and caring people, too.

One of the best ways to help your child realize their worth and leadership potential is by giving them opportunities to lead. Through Leader in Me, our students practice leadership daily at school. But did you know you can also support this at home?

Why Leadership Roles Matter...

Student leadership roles—whether in the classroom or at home—help teach:

  • ✅ Responsibility

  • ✅ Leadership

  • ✅ Contribution

Getting Started at Home

Here are some steps to help you create a leadership role for your child at home:

  1. Talk with your student about a role they might enjoy.

  2. Discuss why they’re interested in it and what leadership qualities they bring.

  3. Work together to set expectations and talk about balancing responsibilities (like homework) with their new role.

At-Home Leadership Role Ideas:

  • 🌱 Gardener: caring for plants indoors or outdoors

  • 💻 Technology Lead: making sure devices are charged and ready

  • 🧹 Floor Leader: keeping floors clean and clutter-free

  • 🍳 Assistant Chef: helping out in the kitchen

After a week or so, sit down with your child to talk about how it’s going. You might be surprised at the pride and ownership they take in their new role!

At Rock Creek, we know leadership isn’t just something you practice... it’s something you live. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child grow as a leader at school and at home. 🌟

From The Rock Creek Clinic:

I Need to stay Home If...

🏡 When Should My Child Stay Home from School?

At Rock Creek, we want all of our students to stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Sometimes, that means a “home day” is the best choice. Our school nurses have shared the following guidelines to help families decide when a child needs to stay home and when they are ready to return:

✅ Stay home if your child has…

  • Fever of 100.0°F or higher – return when fever-free for 24 hours without medicine.

  • Vomiting – return after being free of vomiting for at least 2 solid meals.

  • Diarrhea – return after being diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours.

  • Rash with fever or itching – return once fever-free and a doctor has confirmed it’s not contagious.

  • Eye infection with redness, itching, or drainage – return with a doctor’s note after treatment.

  • Head lice – return once treatment has started at home and your child has been checked by the nurse.

  • Hospital stay or ER visit – return with clearance from your medical provider.

💡 Additional Note: If your child has strep throat or another bacterial infection, they should stay home until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours and their healthcare provider has cleared them to return.

Thank you for helping us keep Rock Creek a healthy place for all learners! Your partnership ensures students can return to class ready to learn, grow, and thrive.
