Rock Creek Rockets

Rock Creek Update 10.12.25

WE BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIEVE. ROCK CREEK STUDENTS WILL SUCCEED.

Reminder: No School Friday 10/17

Celebrations

What an incredible week at Rock Creek! Our school-wide Walkathon, hosted by our amazing PTO, was an absolute blast — even when the rain sent us inside! It was a perfect way to celebrate our students’ hard work on the PTO fundraiser, which raised over $16,000 to support our students, staff, and school programs. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success! 💙🚀

We also launched our MTSS intervention groups this week! MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) is something all students participate in — it gives every child time to practice skills they need most, whether that’s extra support or an extra challenge. It’s one of the best ways to make sure every Rocket keeps growing and thriving!

We’re so proud of our students and grateful for the support of our incredible families.
Go Rockets! 💫

🌟 Student Leader Celebration! 🌟

Last week we celebrated our amazing Leaders of the Month from across the building! This month’s focus was on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, and these students did a fantastic job putting this habit into action. We are so proud of their leadership and example! 💙🚀

🌿 Outdoor Classroom Leadership Spotlight! 🌿

We’re so proud of a couple of our 5th grade Girl Scout students who are working on projects to support and enhance our outdoor classroom to work towards earning the Bronze Award! 💚 Their efforts are helping make this space even more special for our school community.

We absolutely LOVE seeing this kind of leadership in action, even when it happens outside of school through the Girl Scouts program. Thank you for your dedication and for giving back to Rock Creek — we can’t wait to see these projects come to life! 🚀

Leader in Me Corner:

Building Independence: Raising Tomorrow’s Leaders

At Rock Creek, we work hard every day to help students become independent, responsible, and capable leaders—future citizens who can make a profound difference in our community. A big part of this work happens at school, but it’s just as important at home.

A helpful way to think about independence is this:

“When you cut it for me, write it for me, open it for me, set it up for me, draw it for me, or find it for me… all I learn is that you do it better than me.”

Every time we step in to do something for our children, we may be saving time—but we’re also taking away an opportunity for them to learn, grow, and problem-solve.

At home, we can foster independence by:

  • Letting children try tasks on their own, even if it takes longer or isn’t perfect.

  • Encouraging problem-solving before offering help.

  • Creating opportunities for kids to make choices and take responsibility for their work.

  • Praising effort, persistence, and creative solutions rather than just results.

By stepping back a little, we give our children the chance to build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills that will stay with them for life. Together, at school and at home, we’re helping our students become the leaders of tomorrow!
