We NEED Your Help: Turkey Drive Starts THIS WEEK |
ROCK CREEK — Let’s do it again!
Last year, we brought in the most turkeys out of ALL Fort Zumwalt elementary schools during the No Hunger Holiday Turkey Drive! 🥇 Way to go, Rock Creek!
This year, we’re setting a big goal: 125 turkeys to help families right here in our own community. We know this holiday season is especially hard for many, and we can make a real difference together.
Here’s how you can help:
💵 Bring in CASH donations: November 10–14 OR 🦃 Bring in FROZEN TURKEYS: November 19
If we hit our goal… every student will enjoy: 🎉 Pajama Day
☀️ Extra Recess 🦃 And… Dr. Dierker & Mrs. McCoy dancing in Turkey Costumes!
PLUS — the grade level that brings in the most will earn a Movie & Snack Party!
Let’s fill those freezers and show the community what Rock Creek pride looks like! 💙💛

🌟 Rock Creek Highlights of the Week! 🌟 |
We closed out last week on such a high note! Parent-Teacher Conferences went wonderfully, and our 2nd graders blew us away leading their own conferences — talk about ownership and confidence!
Our PTO wrapped things up with a super fun assembly to celebrate fundraiser participation. The kids had a blast spraying staff with silly string, and a few even got to pie the principals (we’re still finding whipped cream in our hair).
Everyone enjoyed a little time to rest over Fall Break, and our staff came back a day early for a great day of professional learning. After a short week, we’re ready to hit the ground running for a full week of learning ahead!

Digital Life and Real-Life Balance |
Today’s students are growing up in a world where screens are always present. From social media and messaging to schoolwork and streaming, technology plays a big part in their daily lives. While digital tools can be helpful, too much screen time can impact focus, relationships, and mental health.
As family and community partners, you have a powerful role in helping students build healthy digital habits. At school, we teach students to use The 7 Habits® to guide their choices—including how they use technology. Here are three helpful habits to use at home:
|
|
|
Talk with your student about making smart choices online. Being proactive means taking responsibility for how they use technology and social media. Encourage them to pause and think before they post, share, or comment.
Ask: Are you leading yourself well online? What does your social media footprint say about you?
|
|
Habit 3: Put First Things First |
Help your student set priorities for school, family, and personal time, then build screen time around those things. Talk about balancing technology fun with responsibilities. Set limits together for when and how social media or gaming fits into their day.
Ask: Is this helping you or is it distracting you from what matters most?
|
|
Remind your student to care for their body, mind, heart, and spirit—online and offline. That includes taking breaks from screens, getting outside, staying active, and talking face-to-face with family and friends. It also includes unfollowing or muting online content that drains their energy or hurts their confidence.
Ask: What helps you feel your best—and what gets in the way?
|
|
|
Let’s work together to help students build strong, balanced digital habits. When families, schools, and communities model healthy tech use and positive digital citizenship, students grow more confident, more connected, and more prepared to lead in both the digital world and the real one.
