WE BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIEVE. ROCK CREEK STUDENTS WILL SUCCEED. |

🚀 100 DAYS SMARTER… 100 ITEMS STRONGER! 🚀 |
February 2nd is the 100th Day of School, and our Rockets are celebrating with a challenge that counts! 💥 Each grade level is on a mission to collect 100 non-perishable food items to support Operation Backpack, a program that provides weekend food to children in our community.
👀 Kindergarten has issued the challenge—can the other grades rise to the occasion? On the 100th day, Kindergarten classes will count each grade level’s donations (math + kindness = win!). SHARE Club will help sort and pack all donations for delivery. 🗓 WHEN: January 14 – February 2 🥫 WHAT: Send 1 or MORE kid-friendly, non-perishable food items
📍 WHERE: Place donations outside your classroom door Let’s prove Rocket Pride can count past 100! 🔥 Ready… set… DONATE! 🚀💙 |
RIGHT NOW... Kindergarten has the most items... Will the other grade levels rise to the challenge?!? |
❄️ Brrr… Rocket Families, Stay Warm Out There! ❄️ |
With this VERY cold weather settling in, we hope everyone is staying cozy and enjoying some extra family time indoors. This is the perfect excuse to turn the living room into a movie theater 🍿, curl up with a good book 📚, break out a favorite board game 🎲, or get a little crafty ✂️🎨. Thank you for keeping our Rockets safe, warm, and well cared for—nothing beats quality time together on chilly days like these. 💙🚀 |
💙 Rock Creek Family Time 💙 |
On our early release day, January 14, students across grades K–5 came together for Family Time. Every Rock Creek student belongs to a small “family” group made up of students from multiple grade levels. These groups meet monthly and stay together over time, helping build strong relationships across the building.
This is our first year implementing Family Time, and students are already looking forward to these special moments together. Our goal is to create a strong system of connection and belonging for every Rocket. During this first year, families are focusing on getting to know one another and building trust.
This month, families enjoyed playing a fun board game and completed their Family Quilts, which are now proudly displayed around the building—beautiful reminders that at Rock Creek, we belong together. 🚀💙 |

As one nomination shared, “Beth develops strong relationships with the students she works with that carry over from year to year. Students know they can trust Beth, and through her strength, they blossom and reach their potential. Her strengths are a role model for other staff members to follow. Her years of experience make her irreplaceable and leave an everlasting impression on students and staff alike.”
Beth’s dedication, professionalism, and joyful spirit make Rock Creek Elementary a brighter, stronger place. We are incredibly grateful for all she does and are proud to celebrate her as a shining example of excellence and heart in our school community! |

|
Both Nickole Beseau and Beth Jaggie will be honored at a district-wide banquet at the end of the year, where they will also be considered for the District Educator and Employee of the Year awards. Whether they take home the district title or not, we know we are incredibly lucky to have the best crew of employees around right here at Rock Creek! |

❄️ Snowy Day Activity... Perfect Time to Write! ✍️❄️ |
Snowy days are a great chance to slow down, warm up, and do something meaningful as a family! Missouri students are invited to participate in a special student letter-writing opportunity as we approach our nation’s 250th birthday in 2026. Students are encouraged to write a letter responding to one of the following prompts:
“I am proud to be an American because…” “I love America because…” This is a wonderful at-home activity that builds writing skills, reflection, and civic pride — all from the comfort of the couch (hot cocoa optional ☕). 🎉 Why participate? ~Letters are reviewed statewide ~Ten students will receive the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for American Patriotism ~One letter will be selected as the Lieutenant Governor’s Choice and proudly displayed in his office ~Selected students will be invited to a recognition ceremony this summer
📏 Letter length by grade level: ~Grades K–3: 50 words ~Grades 4–6: 100 words ~Grades 7–12: 200 words 📬 Letters are due by March 1, 2026, making snowy days the perfect time to get started. This is a meaningful way for students to share their voice, practice writing, and reflect on what makes our country special — all while the snow falls outside. So bundle up, grab some paper, and let those thoughts shine. ❄️ You can turn letters into the Elementary Office! |

Growing Independence at Home |
At Rock Creek, we see our students as leaders every day. But leadership doesn’t stop when the school bell rings! The Leader in Me framework is designed to help students develop the self-reliance and "soft skills" they need to thrive in the real world.
By practicing the 7 Habits at home, you aren’t just getting help with chores—you are teaching your child how to take initiative, set goals, and solve problems independently. This builds the confidence they need to tackle challenges in the classroom and beyond. 💡 Real Ideas for Leadership at Home Here are a few simple ways to bring the habits to life this week: Habit 1: Be Proactive (The "I’m in Charge" Habit) * The Launchpad: Create a designated "launchpad" by the front door. Instead of you packing their bag, have your child take charge of placing their backpack, shoes, and water bottle there every night.
The Morning Checklist: Create a simple visual list (Brush teeth, Get dressed, Make bed). Let them check off the items themselves rather than following verbal reminders.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind (The "Plan Ahead" Habit) * Weekly Goal Setting: During Sunday dinner, ask everyone to share one "Big Rock" (a major goal) for the week. It could be "Practice math for 10 minutes a day" or "Be kind to my sibling." Write them on the fridge!
Habit 3: Put First Things First (The "Work Before Play" Habit) * The Timer Challenge: Use a kitchen timer for "must-do" tasks like homework or tidying up. Tell them, "Once the timer goes off and this is done, it's officially your 'choice time' to play or relax."
Habit 6: Synergize (The "Together is Better" Habit) * Meal Planning: Invite your child to help plan one family meal a week. Let them "lead" the kitchen by washing vegetables or setting the table. Synergizing makes the work go faster and is much more fun! Why It Matters
When we allow children to take the lead on small tasks at home, we are sending a powerful message: "I trust you, and you are capable." These small moments of independence are the building blocks for a lifetime of leadership. |
