EMPOWERING LEARNERS, BUILDING LEADERS - EVERY DAY FOR EVERY TRAILBLAZER!

We Build Leadership by Recognizing Our Growth!

When you work hard and you accomplish something, you should celebrate!

On Feb. 13 we held our Semester 1 Celebration Assembly - featuring student speakers, PIG races to celebrate meeting our Pretty Important Goals for attendance, and celebrations of our students who showed great attendance, behavior and/or academic growth during the first semester.  It was great to come together as a school community to celebrate all we have achieved, and to gear up for all we have left to accomplish!

Trailblazer Families,

It's March!  What???  It truly seems like this year has flown by!

These past weeks, we have had some guests in the building to support some of our most imporant work aligned with our school improvement plan.  On Feb. 19, we had three Leader in Me coaches in the building to assess our Lighthouse Readiness, a milestone we hope to achieve soon. They were INCREDIBLY impressed with our students, which was no surprise. We truly have amazing kids at LCE, who work hard to grow every day as readers, writers, mathletes, speakers, tour guides, photographers, reporters, and leaders. Our students were truly the star of the show! We will use their feedback to guide future leadership learning efforts at LCE!

On Feb. 23 we had representatives from the publisher of our English Language Arts resource, Amplify, visit 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms. Again, we saw engaged Trailblazers working hard to grow. We also saw LCE literacy teachers doing great work to build knowledge in our classrooms, which will help ALL learners grow.

For me, these visitors confirm what we all already know. Lewis and Clark is going places! Day by day, week by week, we are growing as a community. We are truly living our mission statement of EMPOWERING LEARNERS, BUILDING LEADERS - EVERY DAY FOR EVERY TRAILBLAZER. We cannot thank all of YOU enough for all you do to support our Trailblazers. Your time spent talking with them about their day, reading with them, doing homework with them, advocating for them when necessary, and sharing concerns and feedback with us, all adds up. Together, we are accomplishing great things this year!

We have A LOT going on this month, here are some highlights:

Picture Day: Our Spring Picture Day is March 10! Smile :)

Talent Show: Our 2026 Talent Show will be at 6pm on Wednesday, March 11, and will be held at East HS once again!

Lucky to Have You Week: Our 3rd annual Lucky to Have You Week will be March 16-19.  Check our calendar for all the events for the week!

iReady Math Diagnostic: Once again, our Trailblazers get a chance to show what they know in the area of Math!  We are excited to see how much they have learned this year. You can help your Trailblazer by talking with them about their math goals for the year, help them get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast before they take the test.

Spring Break: Spring Break starts with a Records Day on Friday, March 20, and classes resume on Monday, March 30!

If there is anything we can do to help you or your Trailblazer, feel free to contact our office at (636) 397-3111, between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., or reach out to one of our administrators directly. We are having a fantastic 2025-26 school year, as we go WILD ABOUT LEADERSHIP, together!

Celebrations

Shout-out to our February Triple E Impact winner - Nicolette LoGrasso!  Ms. LoGrasso is one of our amazing Special Educators, and speciaizes in services related to basic reading skills and reading fluency.  She excels at implementing research-based strategies to support readers with foundational skills needs and is an advocate for literacy.  Way to go, Ms. LoGrasso!

Congratulations to our 5th graders, who celebrated their completion of the D.A.R.E. program with DARE Graduation this past month!

A huge congratulations to our D.A.R.E. Essay winners: Kavya (Lee's HR), Avery (Rohr), Seth (Kennon), Junior (Otten), Justice (Carnes), Angie (Morgan), and Charlotte (Benson)

A huge congratulations to our D.A.R.E. Citizenship Winners: Louis (Lee's HR), Emma (Benson), Tess (Otten), Maddie (Carnes), Xaiviyahn (Morgan), Jonathan (Kennon), and Amir (Rohr)

Stevie Snee, our Technology education teacher, was awarded a Randy Schilling STEM Education grant from the Economic Development Council of St. Charles County.  This grant will fuel further efforts to boost our Trailblazers' knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! STEM education is all about teaching students critical 21st century skills (collaboration, problem solving, etc.), about career options in these fields, and helping students see themselves in these future roles, and we are excited to see this come to life at LCE!

This month we held a celebration assembly to recognize our accomplishments from Semester 1.  Some highlights:

  • EVERY Trailblazer was recognized for one (or more!) or the following: Attendance Award (97% or greater attendance), Honor Roll (All A/B during Sem 1), iReady Growth (showing growth on iReady), Behavior Certificate (no referrals in Q1, Q2, or Sem 1)!
  • All 3 of our grades were over 93% for attendance for Semester 1!
  • 209 students have met end-of-year expectations in reading (per iReady)
  • A huge shout-out to Mrs. Carnes' homeroom and Mrs. Herd's homeroom for being our highest iReady growth classes in Reading and Math (respectively)
  • 337 of our 420 students had ZERO disciplinary referrals during the first semester!
  • We look forward to a fantastic March!

Classroom Spotlight - Building Background Knowledge Together!

Reading comprehension is complicated.

The ability to make sense of what we read depends on a lot of factors - grammar and language knowledge, vocabulary, phonics and decoding abilities, and background knowledge. A reader who knows a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff is going to demonstrate better reading comprehension.

One goal of our literacy instruction in FZSD is to build background knowledge. This has been a true game-changer at LCE. Students engage in meaningful learning about a host of science and social studies topics. And we do it together! Students at LCE do not sit and get - they read, write, talk, think, and in the end, grow!

Each month, we will continue to highlight exciting learning activities going on in our school. If your child comes home RAVING about a class activity, let me know! You can reach me at peterjohnson@fz.k12.mo.us!

March Habit of the Month: Sharpen the Saw Like a Sloth!

SLOTHS are natural masters of Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. By spending most of their day resting and eating nutritious leaves, they ensure their bodies have the physical energy needed to thrive in the rainforest canopy. Their calm and steady pace allows them to recharge their batteries and stay balanced without getting overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the jungle. Just like a student taking a well-deserved "brain break" after a big project, a sloth knows that you cannot be effective if you don’t take time to renew your energy.

Trailblazers can SHARPEN THE SAW by getting a good amount of rest, eating well, exercising, and prioritizing restorative leisure over video games and screen time.

How does your family follow HABIT 6 - SYNERGIZE?
