EMPOWERING LEARNERS, BUILDING LEADERS - EVERY DAY FOR EVERY TRAILBLAZER!

We Build Leadership by Exploring Our Community!

Our 3rd grade Trailblazers went to Busch Stadium for our first field trip of the year!  They had an amazing time exploring Busch Stadium, and also got to learn about the physics of baseball, about the history of baseball equipment, about the different jobs and roles needed to keep Busch Stadium and the Cardinals running, and got a tour of the press box!  A big thank you to our Third Grade teachers for planning a great trip!

A Note from Mr. Johnson

Trailblazer Families,

We have a lot of great things happening at LCE in the month of January. They include:

See how they've grown: Our students get to show off their reading growth by taking the iReady Reading diagnostic, starting Jan. 12! Students will take an adaptive test to show how much they have grown during first semester, and we use the information to plan learning strategies for each of them for second semester. The goal is to identify where all of our Trailblazers are on their journey and give them the extra time and support they need to learn at high levels!

FZE League of Leaders: Starting in January, student leaders from East High School will be coming to LCE to meet with students during lunch. Our Trailblazers LOVE these visits, and it's a great opportunity for them to learn from many former Trailblazers about how to do amazing in middle and high school!

D.A.R.E. Graduation: Our 5th grade leaders will have their D.A.R.E. Graduation on Jan. 26. This year, we are bringing back an old tradition - the D.A.R.E. Spaghetti Dinner! We will have a dinner at East High starting at 5:30, and are taking donations to fund the dinner and the D.A.R.E. program. We suggest $10 and would appreciate any generosity our community is willing to extend!

Great Skate Night: Our January Great Skate Night will be on Tuesday, Jan. 27! This is our third Great Skate Night of the year and all Trailblazers and Panther Cubs are invited, and proceeds go to fund a 5th Grade Only Great Skate Night later in the spring!

If there is anything we can do to help you or your Trailblazer, feel free to contact our office at (636) 397-3111, between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., or reach out to one of our administrators directly. We are having a fantastic 2025-26 school year, as we go WILD ABOUT LEADERSHIP, together!

Remember to:

  1. Subscribe to our district and building calendars!

  2. Check out our newly updated 2025-2026 Family Handbook!

  3. Check your child's Leadership binder, which comes home weekly (or more) and contains their red communication folder.

  4. Talk with your child about their iReady growth!  And, if your Trailblazer did not grow much, encourage them to keep up the hard work and to keep doing their best.  2nd semester can be a great learning time for many students!

Spread the word!

We are excited to announce our 2nd Annual LCE/SPE Parent Teacher Committee TRIVIA NIGHT! This was a big hit last year and raised more than $5,000 for the students and staff of our two amazing schools. We are taking table purchases and donations of raffle baskets, and would love any small business owners in our community to sponsor a round!  If interested, please email our PTC board.

This will take place on Feb. 6 at The Summit Church in O'Fallon.  See the attached flyer for more information!

December Student Scholars

We are starting a new initiative to recognize incredible leaders in the classroom! Each grade level content team nominated one Student Scholar for the month of December. These are students who are growing as readers, writers and mathematicians, and who show great leadership as well. A big shout out to all of these Trailblazer Leaders!

Celebrations

  • We have completed our winter iReady benchmark assessment, and are excited to share that we grew our mathletes this semester! Our typical Trailblazer mathlete is on track to meet their annual growth goal, and several classes HAVE ALREADY!  Our 3rd and 4th grades have grown more than the district average!!!
  • LCE had the second highest growth in APR scores among FZSD elementary schools from the 2024 to 2025 school years! We grew 14.2% between the two years.
  • Congratulations to all of our LCE DARE graduates!  These students were all active participants in every lesson, completed various activities and assignments, and turned in a completed essay at the end of the program.  Each class will have one essay winner selected to present at our Graduation ceremony in January!
  • Congratulations to Rachel Mizera and Westi Smith, our Triple E Impact winners for November and December!  These two go above and beyond in supporting LCE, students and staff alike, and are invaluable leaders in our school community!

Classroom Spotlight - LEADERSHIP DENS!

Our Leadership Dens are a huge hit!

Monthly, our students meet in groups across grade levels to collaborate on projects to help make the school an amazing place.  Here, you see our Beautification Leaders hard at work painting ceiling tiles to color up our front entry way.  When you give students an opportunity to lead the way, they can do amazing things!

Each month, we will continue to highlight exciting learning activities going on in our school. If your child comes home RAVING about a class activity, let me know! You can reach me at peterjohnson@fz.k12.mo.us!

Pumba from the Lion King

January - Seek First to Understand Like a Jungle Owl!

A jungle owlet should seek first to understand its surroundings before it acts. This means when it hears a rustle in the leaves, it doesn't just immediately swoop down. Instead, the owlet uses its amazing senses—its big eyes and sharp ears—to carefully figure out if the sound is a tasty insect snack or a dangerous predator like a large snake. By taking a moment to understand the situation, the owlet stays safe, saves its energy, and makes sure it only catches the best meal!

How do YOU seek first to understand???
