Lewis & Clark Trailblazers

Lewis & Clark Update 8.1.2025

SOARING TO EXCELLENCE!

We're Wild About Leadership!!!

Our 2025-2026 campus-wide theme this year is WILD ABOUT LEADERSHIP! And we are!

In FZSD, we value learning at high levels, for all students. We believe that this also entails equipping our students with a wide range of critical leadership skills so that they can be healthy, happy, and independent adults one day. This starts for students as young as kindergarten, as even 5-year-old Panther Cubs can learn to make plans, think ahead, work with others, to respect others and themselves, and to take care of their minds, bodies, and spirits!

Wild About Leadership!

A Note from Mr. Johnson

Trailblazer Families,

August has arrived, and with it the first Principal's Newsletter of the year. We are privileged and honored to serve our community for another year as Principal and Assistant Principal! We have a lot of important information to share this month, so we will try to be brief!

Entry Way: When you first visit LCE this year, you will notice a new set of double doors in our entry way. This "vestibule" is intended to increase security and provide another layer of safety for our students and staff during the school day. When you come to visit LCE, whether that be for a meeting, to drop off a forgotten backpack, or to pick up your child, please see Mrs. Littlepage at the window near her desk. If you are here to have lunch with your child or for a meeting, after checking in simply wait on the benches or seats in the vestibule and a staff member will let you through the double doors when the time is right. We appreciate your patience as we adjust to this new system, as we know this will be a bit different than what you're used to at LCE. However, we know it will greatly increase safety on our campus, which is a critical priority for us as a school.

Parent Teacher Committee (PTC): Our school shares a PTC with St. Peters Elementary. The executive board meets monthly, and any and all community members are welcome to attend. These dates are posted on the LCE website calendar. The PTC is currently on the search for a Treasurer. This critical role serves as the bookkeeper of the PTC and assists in purchasing and budgeting for the organization. If you are interested in this role please contact Mr. Johnson as soon as possible!

Lunch Times: One of the most common questions we get is: "What time is my Trailblazer's lunch?" Our students get a 25-minute lunch daily, at the times listed below:

  • 5th Grade (all classes): 10:55

  • 4th Grade (Glynn (Meyer), Herd, Krueger): 11:30

  • 4th Grade (Bagwell, Fruchey, Hagl, Windler): 11:35

  • 3rd Grade (Galvin, Jackson, Scott): 12:05

  • 3rd Grade (Dalton, Lemmons, Roberts, Wertenberger): 12:10

Transportation/Buses: Our transportation department is hard at work on routes for this school year. Drivers will be using a new tool this year to check students in on the bus in the afternoon to ensure that they are on the right bus, every single day. Your Trailblazer will have a tag on their backpack that is being used to check them into the bus, and if they are on the wrong bus an alert will appear on the driver's navigation tablet. This will help us ensure students are on the right bus. As always, we ask for patience during the first week as we implement this year's routes and processes, and please plan on buses arriving a bit later than usual in the mornings and afternoons. Watch an overview of the new Stopfinder app, coming this fall for parents/guardians

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures: These are outlined in the Family Handbook (linked in the REMEMBER TO section below), and in this help guide. Our process does run pretty quickly, but please be patient during the first week as we get back into the routine. The most important thing you can do to help us stay safe is to stay in line and to follow the directions of LCE/SPE staff members as they navigate you through our parking lot and driveways.

Check our calendar for all of our back-to-school events. We look forward to seeing all of our Trailblazers when classes start Aug. 18.

~Mr. Johnson and Mr. Brodbeck

Remember to:

  1. Complete your child's annual Enrollment Update. Without the Enrollment Update, we will not be able to send your child's welcome letter, issue a district Chromebook, or have the necessary medical information to treat your child in the event of them being ill or injured at school. For information about completing this critical enrollment step, check out the district Back to School Headquarters at go.FZSD.us/BackToSchool

  2. Check for this year's LCE supply lists!

  3. Subscribe to our district and building calendars!

  4. Check out our newly updated 2025-2026 Family Handbook!

Spread the word!!!

Our Supply Drop Off Night will be from 5-6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14.

We ask that any families who only have LCE students attend from 5-5:30 p.m., while families with both LCE and SPE students attend from 5:30-6pm. This will hopefully alleviate some traffic and parking challenges on our campus. Feel free to park behind LCE on the bus loop, as those doors will be unlocked as well. This will be a great opportunity to meet your child's homeroom teacher, drop off supplies and medications and learn about our PTC, Leader in Me.

We are so excited to welcome everyone back!

A hallway in our school. It's so shiny! Reflections of light on the floor, showcasing the freshly finished wax.

Spotlight: Amazing job, LCE Custodial Team!

There's no filter on that photo, promise! That shine is 100% authentic!

Every summer, our custodial team pulls off a minor miracle. Every classroom is emptied, the furniture is cleaned, the floors are scrubbed and waxed, scuffs and marks on the walls are cleaned off, every rug is shampooed, and on and on and on.

The amount of work our custodial team puts in to get LCE ready for our Trailblazers is remarkable. A huge thank you to Jeff Alexander, Mike Bryan, Gary Galati, and Ron Moore for all their hard work this summer!

Leader in Me!

Get ready to unleash your inner superhero because we're here to talk about something truly special: The Leader in Me program!

And guess what? This is a huge year for us because Lewis and Clark Elementary is celebrating our 4th year as a Leader in Me school! That's right, four years of empowering students to be leaders, problem-solvers, and world-changers. We're not just learning to read and write; we're learning to lead our own lives and make a positive impact on the world around us.

So get ready to be inspired, because the future leaders of the world are showing up Aug.18!
